A growing trend by schools across the country is to hire traveling speech language pathologists. This career choice gives schools fiscal flexibility, and students have the caregiver when and where they’re needed most.

“The average time it takes to fill a therapist job is 61 days, according to staffing firm �鶹ֱ�� . So while there was a 12% increase in demand for permanent therapists between January and June of this year, the demand for travel therapists increased 54% during that same time period.

Jobseekers are responding to the demand.

“As more therapists learn and discover that travel is an option for them, more of them are transitioning to that,” said Brooke McCurley Hargrove , a recruiter at Aya who previously worked as a travel SLP. “Getting to date before you marry a job is probably the biggest draw for most travelers.”

Schools have the highest demand for SLPs, while hospitals are driving the demand for therapists, she added.”
